The Australian Prime Minister is called John Howard (regrettably).

North Korea is not going to attack anybody unless it is first attacked. Perhaps people like Johnnie Howard, Bush and his little friend Blair could try to grasp the simple fact that if you go around threatening people (and demonstrating utter barbarity in Iraq), those people - including those at the loopy-end of the spectrum like Kim Jong-Il in North Korea - might feel the need to get something with which to defend themselves.

North Koreans are not Muslim and "The Australian" is owned by a man who is at least as big a menace as Kim Jong-Il: Ruper Murdoch.

Agreed. North Korea is not going to pre-emptively strike anyone.

And what is Kim Jong-Il asking for? Dialogue. Respect. That's all.

And what is Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran asking for? Dialogue. Respect?

Exactly what the American government seems incapable of doing.

The United Nations voted unanimously to condemn the nuclear testing of North Korea.

China, horrified with nuclear testing 150 kms from its border imposed financial restrictions and limited trade restrictions (of sorts) on its brotherly neighbor.

North Korea promptly, allegedly turned immediately around, apologized to the world community and promised to not do any more nuclear testing.

Nobody claimed this apology never happened, or this promise never happened, except one.

Hmmmm. Big wild guess, Condy Rice claimed the apology never happened, the promise of no more testing never happened.

In the interest of humanity, and peace, and common sense, what the hell is going on here?

Can't we at least START a dialogue with this latest gesture?

Or again, and again, and again, and again... do we only want the chaos?
