| I've an architecture degree and is half way finishing my IDP, if I work as an urban designer, can I get my IDP too? "urban designer" , the concept is pretty new to me, do someone in this forum know what's the career path of an urban designer and is there a registration exam to become an urban designer? thanks much in advance. |

I know of no states that license urban planners/designers.
If you do not intend to become an architect you have no need for IDP.
If you still want an architect's license, and while working as an urban designer you are not supervised by an architect, then you need to go to ncarb.org to review the IDP requirements to see what's possible.
BTW, what exactly do you mean by "urban designer". Do you intend to do city planning for a gov't entity? |

| thanks.some bigger firms like SOM offer urban designer position, it's focused on bigger scale planning (e.g. residential block) , public space, etc. but I think I'll still have to find a job working as an architect to finish my IDP first. thanks. |

| I think you are probably best to go mainstream, I was not sure what you meant by urban designer either, make sure before you go specific you have gained enough experience and knowledge. |
