COULD ANYONE HELP ME TO UNDERSTAND THAT:
There was an artistic movement in Italy in the beginning of XX century - La Pittura Metafisica, or Metaphysical Painting, established by Giorgio de Chirico and Carlo Carra.
Aldo Rossi's architecture is compared by critics (in many critical essays) with the certain pictures by de Chirico. The exact word as a base of comparison is "METAPHYSICAL". But this word seems to me too obscure, too metaphorical. How can one define the architecture as "metaphysical"? What could serve as a criterion for such definition? How can we distinguish which architecture is "metaphysical" and which is not?
Peter Eisenman wrote in his article that "metaphysica of presence" is "certianly at issue today in architecture". What is "metaphysica of presence"? Anyone, help me to comprehend!!! |
