Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Welcome to Episode Three of renewed citizen involvement in downtown Eugene! First there was the rally and hearing on the Whole Foods garage giveaway, and then the first City Hall Complex Forum. Now it is our turn!

At each of those events, we announced that on April 27th, Friends of Eugene would try to facilitate something more positive around achieving community visions for downtown - a community meeting on collaborative planning for downtown Eugene. And here it is! Please participate if you can:

Community Forum on Downtown Planning
Thursday, April 27, 2006
6:30pm to 9:30pm
EWEB Community Rooms
500 East 4th Street, Eugene

The fundamental goal for this meeting is to find out if there is vision and commitment in the forum (and by extension in the larger community) to take further structured steps to create a collaborative community-based comprehensive plan for downtown Eugene.

Please come and contribute to this conversation on 1) what we want downtown Eugene to be like, and 2) how we can work together to help that happen.

The meeting will include some presentation on current and pending development projects and proposals in downtown.

It will also include some presentation on what we think a collaborative community-based planning process looks like, why we think it is so important, and how we might be able to make it happen.

But MOST of the meeting will be discussion and exchange within the forum - whole group discussion, small group discussion, small group reporting, plus individual comment and posting opportunities. At the end of the meeting, we will check for consensus on any agreement for where to go from here.

We'll be posting background information and links here in this Friends of Eugene online forum:
http://www.designcommunity.com/forums/forum-17.html

Can we work together to craft a shared community vision for the center of our green city?

Please join us Thursday to help focus Eugene community values into the planning process for our downtown.

Best wishes,

Kevin Matthews
