recent visit to a green bldg....

heya...,

v recently went for a tour.... we visited the GODREJ GREEN BUSINESS CENTRE....in hyderabad... there,, they didn hav trees in the site, it was all landscaping and roof gardening.... they used WIND TOWERS for letting in air... but i didnt get the mechanism of the towers as to hw they cool the area n al that.. n also there were no trees to let in the breeze. but the place was real cooooool...


and wat r the materials used for the construction??? is it the same concrete n brick or any different materials r used????

based on what i've researched about sustainable buildings, of course theire materials aren't the same as the usual construction materials. it shouldve incorporated something greener in their design.

Look on the Business Centre's website. There is a case study on 'Green Buildings and their benefits' and in this the author describes the building materials of the Godrej Centre - aerated concrete blocks, concrete with a high fly-ash content, timber etc. Does that tie in with what you saw?

yeah i saw that too. india's business sector is really pushing green in their design as it is their social responsibility to do so. im really interested on how they cooled the water resevoir (or some underground pool of some sort) and blow it upwards. I think the idea is very much the same as the concept of a termite mound. we could colaborate our ideas and make one kick ass thesis, what do you say?

yup lekizz... its the same bldg u r talking bout...... it was a nice trip to the building.... most of it was amazing.... never thot so much bout green bldgs....
hey chrisb..,., they didn hav any underground pool..., they said the wind tower had alternative concrete slabs...,., they pour cold water in it.... n the air as it passes gets cooled... n then its forced thru n let out thru air ducts..... THE VENTURI EFFECT....!!!

i believe that the pool im saying is where they contain the water (which they cool). well i don't have really much to share about it cause im just a student whos still taking thesis classes but from based on my research a green building has to be.

1. Self Sufficient

Basically, they could stand on their own. (for a little while i guess) Most of the technology applied to green buildings are for them to feed on themselves.

2. Sustainable

Being self sufficient leads to being sustainable. In my own point of view, the sustainable issue comes into play in the materials where its either they could easily replace it or they don't need to replace it. Try incorporating materials that are easy for them to have. (e.g. if in india you have abundant limestone, then use limestone)

3. Innovative

Since these considerations aren't always used in a typical construction of buildings, series of innovative solutions are made. But hey, with all the controversy and 'paparazzi' the green design is producing it won't be long til everyone uses it. (thats a good thing)

4. Site Oriented.

The buildings always uses the solar/wind orientation to its fullest.
There is so much potential here.

5. Energy Saving

If you applied everything from 1-4, you'll be able to save atleast 40-60% electricity. Most research ive done on buildings always say that they ended up saving 40-60%. Well thats just an estimate cause im generalizing.

6. Summing all these up, you produce an organism.

Organism = Bio Architecture = Green Architecture.

i read ur post.., i didn understand wat windscoops, double facade with internal circulation, plenums on the ceiling are....
