I developed a tool that I think many of you may get some use out of.
Instead of trying to figure out the design wind speed based on contour lines, go to http://www.windspeedbyzip.com. You can just type in the project address or just the zip code and the program will return the interpolated design wind speed for anywhere in the continental U.S.

Please let me know what you think.

Tried two zips I've done project in that are 300 miles apart. Both speeds were much higher than what we must use for design.

What were the zip codes you were looking for? I'd like to take a look into it.

For the two zip codes you posted, both are located in CA which is 85 mph (see the legend on the side). I should point out though that the first zip code, 90807, is within a "Special Wind Area" which is why the map is highlighted red. The building department may require a higher wind speed in this area.

Well, we've never had to go over 70mph.

70 mph sounds like fastest wind speed. I believe most jurisdictions use 3-second gust.

I looked at the site and the wind speeds are per ASCE (3-second). I am in Mass. but doesn't California reference ASCE-7 as well?
