I'm about to start a remodeling project for a bathroom but need some advice from as many sources as I can get...

This bathroom is small (5'x7.5') but has 2 entries. One door goes into the master bedroom and the other goes into the "hallway" adjoining the master and guest bedrooms. The current "suite" feels really cramped with the two doors swinging into the bathroom. I want to wall up the doorway between the master bedroom and the bathroom.

Is it a good idea to wall up that entry? Or is it better to leave it as a small suite?

anychance you could include rough floor plan of the bathroom and where the doors are in relation to the toilet, bath, sink, etc.

that would help Smile

Thanks for the tip... =) The site is not allowing me to attach the PDF though. I've put the PDF on my google page:

I see, yea that is pretty cramped. Well in my opinion, IF there is another bathroom in the house, i would board up the door leading to the hallway. If not, then i think you should close up the master bedroom door. There is simply not enough room. Then again, if you wanted to get creative, you could sacrifice some Master Bedroom space and extend the bathroom solving the problem as well. THAT would be awesome, but probably more expensive than simply closing up a door.

There's a 3/4 bathroom in the basement, and boarding up the hallway entrance to the upstairs bathroom would make it very inconvenient for guests or people living in the guest room upstairs...

Unfortunately, I don't have the money or time to knock down and rebuild walls... So I guess that leaves me with boarding up the master bedroom entrance? From the perspective of resale, do you think it would hurt or help the price if I boarded up that entryway?

Thanks again for your advice!

I see, well is it much of a walk from the entrance of the master bedroom to the alternate bathroom entrance?

Also, I really cant say about the resale value...

sorry, by alternate bathroom entrance i mean the entrance to the bathroom in question, other than the entrance that is right off the bedroom.

It's no more than 5 steps out of the master bedroom... The over abundance of doors upstairs is another reason I want to close up that door between the master bed and the bath. There are only 2 bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs, and yet there are a total of 8 doors!

I've attached another PDF on the google page that includes a sketch of the rooms in relation to each other.

The new PDF helps alot. Based on that I would definitely close the door leading to the master bedroom. No question Smile

Have you considered installing a "pocket door" in place of one or both of the standard hinged type..? They now make real interesting ones like this...

Absolutely. I do plan to do a pocket door for the downstairs bathroom. I suppose that could work for the upstairs bath too, but I've already walled in that entry. =) It's a good decision, I think. Now there will actually be room to put in a usable towel bar!

Any recommendations as to where to go to get these nice pocket doors? Any words of advice for their installation?
