I'm writing a dissertation about greek revival and if it is old enough to preserve in greece. One of my topics is the relationship between old and new and I'm trying to see what people think in general about this topic, that is why Im asking so many questions...
Thanks... |

It is quite some time that I have been moving around in this site. But I was very happy to see the same persons, "Elisa Kouloumenta" living in Athens, Mr. "solidred" and "Liljana" from Bitola, Macedonie, all centrally active in the dicussions.
Congratulations to Elisa Kouloumenta for her highly successful topic, which is, in its subjective perspective, extremely valuable and also stimulating. We are all caught in this modern dilemma of different environments: childhood, youth and education, professional life and eventually forming a family, and, finally, age PERFORMED IN CERTAIN RURAL/ OR URBAN LANDSCAPES!
"how do you think of the city you live in?" A very simple question, but a fundamentally human question.
For today, just this: congratulations (NOBEL PRICE!)
I will come back.
Warm regards

I'd recommend Hong Kong except I haven't been there. I have been to Istanbul several times and it's great: try fresh bbq fish kebabs down by the Bosphorous and brunch in the penthouse restaurant of the Hilton... |

Great topic
Stockholm, Sweden or Christchurch, New Zealand for harbor towns, Boston is good too. OK with the transit system.
Funny how the subject of food arises... certainly a part of the attraction to urban places is the variety of dining options.
Phoenix is an example of sprawl, with small nodes of unique-ness.
Grand Teton National park, for skyscrapers of the natural type.
Love the pics of Bitola, looks like there is an active streetlife there, places that aren't dominated by trucks / cars have an astounding energy. _________________ "If the city is one of humankinds greatest achievements, it's uncontrolled evolution also can lead to desecration of both nature and the human spirit" -M.G. NYC! love it for its architecture. not so much for the individual buildings, though there are plenty of good ones, but for how those buildings all come together. There are really only a handful of US cities that are so walkable- Boston, maybe San Francisco, Philly? Chicago? But I don't think any have the same density or the same vitality on their sidewalks. You'd probably have to look to Europe for that.
That said, it's not a great time to be an architect in new york right now- layoffs everywhere but I don't think new york is unique in that respect. _________________ Long Island Architects | Southampton, NY Architects | Shingle Style Architect |

I live in LA. Love some aspects of it and hate others. There is definitely a lot of opportunity here - and a lot of people come here with the hope of becoming rich and famous... _________________ Sinking Cities Architecture Blog |

Yeah, unfortunately too many people do end up doing that. Downtown has changed a lot in recent years though. _________________ Sinking Cities Architecture Blog |
