Hei Mabonga,
I am not sure if you finish your assignment now. But it happens to me now as I also have an assignment to work with simple structure with a four storey office building of 1,800-2000 square meters. I just want to share.
I think your idea is not bad but as it is to be designed simple structure, it is not needed to focus on the design too much except focusing on the program according to how important in your subject. I don't know what's your subject but mine is to explore and understand the structure and it is required to be just simple.
And you can think of the structure you are interested most and explore them. I like glass structure and I would focus at glass design and other structures such as steel or aluminum or concrete. Please visit at my blog at http://archizen.24buddy.com and I hope you get any architectural knowledge from it.
Cheers!
