The Uniform Building Code and the International Building Code have wood framing tables indicating the size, spacing, and loads for floor joists, studs,, etc. for conventional framing.
Custom framing must be certified by a structural engineer calcs.
If you need to frame with cold formed light metal studs and joist you could find the framing tables at www.dietrichindustries.com. |

You can use IBC 2006 Table 2308.10.2 and 2308.10.3 on page 470 to 485.
