First, the good news. New Orleans is back, beaten down, fighting back, lively coming back, spirit is lively, thank God Almighty.
The bad news I just heard... the Ninth Ward is struggling, pockets of courageous neighborhoods, individual streets, standing up and cleaning up and fixing up. But whole patches of Ninth Ward is as tragic as the day after Katrina came and wiped them out.
And the famed levee break is now a semi-straight patch job that one person said could fall easily in a mini hurricane or flood.
Why? Because the FEMA people are debating with the State of Louisiana people who are debating with City of New Orleans people.
The causes of the Katrina 1 failure were discussed in a book called... "The Great Deluge", with one of the failing elements being a poorly designed waterlands area, overdeveloped before, and not corrected three years later.
Katrina 2, 3, 4 will most surely happen, and maybe this year, who knows.
All this is easy for me to say from my ignorant Northeast vantage point, where all I see is hundred of billions of dollars going overseas to change tribal religious people into good-voting, tax-paying Republicans and Democrats....
...but...
could we fix home-plate first?
Louisiana, first! Mississippi, first! Iowa, first. Ohio, first!
God Bless New Orleans! Heart and soul America.
