What is the consensus of live plants in buildings? Can plants, aside from aesthetics, also be green in the way they are planted, staged, and care for?
Improperly cared for plants can bring allergens including mold/ fungi and pests into a building. But properly cared for sub- irrigated plants can have many benefits that include removing harmful pollutants from the air and generating clean oxygen as well as many psychological benefits.
Plants in buildings a must have or a liability? |

| Definitely a must, for all the positive reasons you have stated, physical and psychological. But like you say, there can be a problem where no one assumes responsibility for the correct maintainance. Plants ON buildings have the benefit of direct access to sunlight and rainwater which, I think, makes them a serious consideration for architects and building owners. They need less intervention by humans and still provide substantial benefits. |
