Hi Kevin,
I live in Bali, Indonesia and travel around quite a bit within the country. I am always amazed with the traditional architecture indigenous to each region. Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java, Bali, Sumba, etc. all have very unique styles, almost intentionally different from one another. Its what makes traveling around in Indonesia so enjoyable for me.
I am a designer and a sculptor and see the magic in the proportions and building methods used in houses. One of my particular favorites is the Minang Kebau style homes. Although at one point all materials used for these homes were wood and bamboo with pegs made from the same material.
Now the traditions seem to be fading with the advent of globalization and a lack of cultural awareness to keep these building traditions alive. Centuries of Master Carpentry lost because they would rather trade there old wooden or bamboo homes for a concrete one...

What are your thoughts about this?
