"...the piper must be paid, not by us, but by our sons and daughters"

yep, that's it.

Why aren't the dowels trimmed on those purlin splices?

Mr. Nit-picky are we today? I hardly ever get pictures of the finished product. Usually too tired by that time.

Did the dragging claw marks suggest I'm going over the edge? I just fell to the next level is all, but a mere flesh wound, perhaps some antibacterial cream would help. Laughing

and those trunnels shouldn't be referred to as "dowels", pins or pegs will do too. Cool

oooh, oooh, I know this one........ wait a minute, it will come
to me..... in a minute..................

ok, I got it........

first, it looks cool if you don't........

second, if you tap them a bit with a giant mallet, they don't
fall out, but only a giant mallet will do. Wink

btw, if those supports aren't form follows function....
well, you know.....

Very Happy Giant mallets are called beetles, ergh ah or beatles. I need a refresher course, but I hope you get the point. Very Happy if there was one. Embarassed

Is support a form or function? and as always take your time answering as I do. Cool or just go for it if you feel comfortable.

Where's the auther of this topic??? I could use some help, as I noticed the pretty timberframe in the first post of this topic.

First of all for all you Francophiles, en francais, it's pronounced,
mal-lay Very Happy

now that we have that straightened out, I would have to say that support is both form and function!

God bless FLW! Very Happy

Good on you. Cool

Ever get those fleeting or constantly nagging thoughts of "Does my architecture suck and if so why? Those folks who are so sure of themselves, do creep me out a bit, but I can be respectful to all, when deserving.

I can understand what FLW was saying, I just agree to disagree.

What -- "form and function are one ?"

Wright was wordy -- but maybe the best thing he said was "What a man does. . .

THAT, he has. . ."

Now back to the bracket question........( I love questions on the forum because it just like Wheel of Fortune except there's no wheel and no fortune) but not to digress further, I was talking to my cousin Eddie the other day, and he not being the sharpest tool in the shed, still made a simple but rather astute point.
'You see that bracket over yonder', he said, 'if I were to build me one of them, (he never could because he has two left thumbs and limited mechanical ability) I could make that there bracket from wood, or steel, or make it curved with a doodad in the middle, or straight, but it would still be a bracket, holdin' up the porch'.
Wow, I thought, Eddie's like one of them gentlemen philosophers I 've read about.............
