I registered here because I thought maybe someone could help me. We're building a home and I am so confused on colors. We're using a rosewood stained maple cabinet in our kitchen and are probably going to go with a dark granite countertop.

I'm unsure if I should make my wood floors that are in the entranceway and dining room, complement my kitchen cabinets or not? Is it better to go light or dark?

This is pretty much personal preference. I recommend hiring a local interior designer (not a decorator - but someone with credentials and taste Wink )

You should be able to contract someone on an hourly basis to assist in colors and material choices.

If you are looking for quality interior designers and some good tips and ideas for your house, check out the Qualified Interior Designers website:

They have listing for professional interior designers and articles that can help out with new and fresh ideas. They even have events listed like home and gift shows you can attend.

Good luck!

I agree about the interior designer. If you choose not to hire an expert then at a minimum I would recommend "mock ups". Buy or get large samples of the flooring, countertop and stained cabinet wood and temporarily lay them out in relationship to one another, stand back and look at it. Try other options and see what you prefer...

You could try getting an interior rendering of the house and see for yourself what it will look like. While professional interior designers may come up with something trendy and fashionable, it may not be to your taste.

Many interior designers will sit down with you before they get started and figure out what you want rather than pushing their own styles and preferences on you.

Make sure you communicate with your designer if you choose to hire one.
