my current firm is big but don't have too much opportunities for me. I'm thinking about changing my job to New york... I've only 2 yrs experiences. seems the projects in New York is relatively small comparing to CA.

for young architects who wants to get all around experiences and get registered, is it better to work in New York or California(say. San Francisco)? thanks.

It's not the city, it's the firm

Look for a small firm of 3-10 people.

Small projects are what oyu want to work on to get well-rounded.

To get the experience you need you have to be skilled and assertive.

thanks, I will....
just wondering maybe California has more new construction while in New York, smaller firms might focus more on renovation or interior. is that true? probably it doesn't matter for a young architect like me? learning anything will help? or it does matter?
thanks.

I don't know why that would be true. All you can do is start applying and see what the firm is up to when you interview.

If you really want to move, then do that. Is there some reason why you're only considering NY & CA?

If you look at the latest list of growing cities, you may want to consider other areas like Charlotte or Raliegh, NC.
