It is with the utmost pride that I am allowed to launch, on this great website, on this great Fireside Forum, possibly my best effort yet, Decoding the Piri Reis Mid-Flood Map.
The Piri Reis map that I mentioned earlier may go down in history as the most astonishing map in existence, and I am preparing this thread to showcase what I have "re-discovered", and what possibly 1000 authors before me have discovered. At first, I thought it was a pre-flood map, and now I realize it is an intermediate-flood-stage map, showing major continental shelf areas, geographic areas, ocean-floor roads, Thuban alignments, navigation parameters, geoglyphic graphic designs, many now flooded.
In short, it is most astonishing, and I can only hope that your internet screen is capable of showing the detail that Google Earth, Adobe Photoshop, has provided me.
As I have presented earlier material, let me continue on this wonderful subject with what a geoglyph-face-cliff, what I am calling the "Pharaoh of Jacksonville", a 90 mile high face cliff now submerged, with its westward facing profile 236 miles into the Atlantic just beyond the Continental shelf.
Can you see the face cliff image of an Egyptian style Pharaoh with crown facing West, underwater East of Jacksonville, Florida?
If you look closely with the faint detailed image that I have, I am convinced that one "Pharaoh profile" is facing West, and another faint profile faces East. There may even be a mini-sphinx to its South, also facing West. I then took this satellite image and plausibly found a match on the Piri Reis map, in its top left corner.
Most of all, I believe that the Piri Reis map displays this Westward facing face-cliff, while a very faint secondary Eastern profile is already submerged at the time this map was created. Earlier I theorized that the map was a "roadmap", and now I correct myself to say that this map contains both road indicators of most ancient times, followed by sailing navigation points of less ancient times. The crown of the Pharaoh face-cliff arguably mimics the style worn by Nefertiti, of 1500 BC time frame, but this is for the experts to handle.
Turning the left side of the map on its side, I am attempting to show the bird-island graphics, along with numerous other animal images. I now believe that these bird and animal images were "codified" to have special secretive meaning to the originators, to be discussed later. Clearly they indicate... "Islands of the colorful birds".
Next up... the "Land of Ophir", "Ahh-Pe-ra", "Ahh-Pa-ha-ro", "Ahh-Pha-ra-oh", I am suggesting I may have identified King Solomon's Mines, and the Piri Reis map clues embedded in graphic images. _________________ Ed Ziomek |

King Solomon’s Mines, the Land of Ophir.
This long lost legendary area has been the pursuit of many thousands or tens of thousands of researchers. Africa, the Middle East, Asia, they have all given plausible geologic locations for this source of mineral wealth.
Even the Amazon River areas from the Atlantic to the Peru-Pacific regions, rich in Gold, Aluminum, Copper, Iron ore, has been proposed as the “Land of Ophir”. To those thousands of previous authors who named the Amazon area as “Ophir”, I am agreeing with you.
My first clue came from a unlikely sources, starting with the book “The Templars' Secret Island”, by Erling Haagensen and Henry Lincoln. In that book, a single photograph from a Templar Temple on the island of Bornholm, between Denmark and Sweden, shows a faint hideous ape-man, squatting and defecating on human beings. He was allegedly representing the devil, in Templar visions of hell, consuming hundreds of humanoid victims, and it made no sense to me at the time.
Later, in a second historical image of the Temple of Tepeyacac (Temple of Iachos), in ancient Aztec Mexico, the exact same hairy ape man in squat pose was shown on the sculpted wall, apparently also representing the devil.
And third, the clincher, the squatting ape-man image is shown in the Piri Reis map, at the mouth of the Amazon River. What did this “devil-defecating-ape-man image” mean?
I was reminded of a quote from Mochetezoma to Cortes, that “Gold was the defecation of the Gods”, and I think now I understand the graphic symbology of all these same images, where there was a historic warning that gold bedeviled human souls, and most commonly bearded human souls. Oh, by the way, if you wanted to hide the location of a gold mine symbol on a public map, that only your followers would understand, I think a crapping bearded ape-man might be a suitable ruse!
Furthermore, the message was clear: “beware of hairy men”, men with beards, because it was the hairy ape-men barbarian-animals that came looking for gold! They were evil, they were the devil.
Need I explain that the predominant cultures of ancient Americas, were probably “hair-less”, and Gold was NOT the currency of the “hair-less cultures”, - turquoise, jade, emeralds, i.e., greenstone and cocoa beans and other commodities were the currency of trade, but not gold (or not at first).
Gold was the crap of the Gods, and it consumed human souls into hell.
So let’s move onto the Piri Reis map, and the hairy ape-men of the Mouth of the Amazon.
Note at this time, that because of my previous research into the etymology of the American Indian names, I knew that ancient Egyptian/Greek/Babylonian/Judaic names, ancient English/American names, and ancient Amerindian names all seem to evolve from the same language tree.
As I may have explained before, I wasn’t looking for “Ophir”, but if I were, I would be hoping for “A-pe-ra”, or “O-pe-ra”, or “Eee-pe-he-ra”, or some other form possibly indicating “birds”… “Pah-hah-ro”, which is closely sounding with “Pharaoh” and certainly "Peru".
Imagine then, myself studying this Piri Reis bizarre ape-man-squatting graphic, at the mouth of the Amazon, and all the island-bird graphics in the Caribbean, and the Pharaoh face-cliff off Jacksonville, then comparing this location with the physical maps of Brazil, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Surinam, Guyana, etc.
Here are some interesting names I found in this Amazon area…
Aporema, located in Amapa Province of Brazil, Mouth of the Amazon
Epira, in Guyana
Approuaque, in French Guyana
Novo Aripuara
Aparuren, in Venezuela
Janaperi
Caapiranga
Paramaribo, in Surinam
Para Province, Northeastern Brazil
Tajapura, (Furo de Tajapura)
Oreirasde Para
Paru, short for “Paharo”, the “big Birds” in Egyptian, Paru de Oesste
Paricatuba
Mapuera Ibara
Apoteri
Pirana
Pen de Para
Peru
In addition, in the same stretch of the Amazon, from the mouth at Aporema on the Atlantic to Peru/Ecuador, we have incredible Egyptian , Greek, and Judaic legacy names with brilliant historic meanings… the most prominent listed first…
Itaquatiara, also spelled Itcacatiara, most probably the “Crown of Ishtar”, or “Crown of Osiris”
Obidos, “Bed of Osiris” aka Abydos in Egyptian
Ruropolis, “Aurora City”, aka “City of Gold” in Greek
Solimoes, aka Western tributary of Amazon River, “Amazonas”… is this the River of Solomon, or the conjunction of the two names… Sol and Maya? These are historic names for “Sun at the center of the Earth”, which is explicitly located near the equator… note: I have to be careful in some respects, that the modern day name for ancient Judaic Kings may not be the same as the ancient name of those same Kings. “King David” may have had a name like “Pa-shee-ba-ken-u-it”, so it is at this point that I am not sure what the ancient name for Solomon was, but it also may have been “Solomon”, or “Hand of the Sun God”.
Manaus, plausibly “Hand of God”
Mancapuru, plausibly “body of the Pharaoh”
Ibara, Ecuador, related to the Ibaro Indigenous tribe, pronounced Eee-bah-roo, “Hebrews” I strongly believe…
If in my amateur way, if I were to guess at the location for the legendary “7 cities of Gold”, I would place the area around Manaus and Itaquatiara as the “Grand Central Station”, because these two regal names of the highest magnitude, are at the strategic dividing point for the Amazon river, one of which becomes Solimeos.
Unquestionably, I firmly believe I have found the “Land of Ophir”, the “Land of the colorful birds” (A-pa-ha-ro), with the implicated meaning of “Land of the Pharaohs” (A-Pharaoh”, and “Land of the Gods”, with a more modern meaning of “Sun at the Middle of the Earth” (Sol-a-Mayas).
The joy of being a tourist is that I can’t prove any of this, and most certainly experts will have a much better explanation, but for now, I am convinced I have found the area of King Solomon’s Mines, the “Land of Ophir”. _________________ Ed Ziomek |

Land of Poseidon? Mountains of the Trident? Now underwater?
Graphics and design have enormous meaning as we all know. Graphic images certainly can educate us, and they can deceive us.
According to my observations, the Piri Reis map-graphics are drawn from several perspectives... North to South, West to East, and in the case of two images, at the 11 o'clock position, they are drawn upside down.
A two or three-masted schooner and a large fish are drawn upside down, which puzzled me, and still I am only guessing at the meaning: Is this a mistake or was it intentional?
First of all, the large view, showing the Atlantic region from the East Coasts of South and North America, and the Spanish and African coast in the East.
I have added a dashed line showing the Piri Reis sailing-navigation lines from the Jacksonville Pharoah's crown, to the Madeira, Portugal island, almost a laser beam straight line that shows identical road lines, not continuous for the entire distance, but still visible on the Atlantic floor. The sailing navigation lines follow the ice-age, ancient roadways on the Atlantic floor.
The red arrow in this image points towards a group of undersea mountains and habitat areas 1330 miles East of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
My second image is a closer view, showing the East coast of America, the road/navigation lines from the crown of the "Jacksonville Pharaoh", towards Madeira Island in Portugal. These same lines are shown passing through the Poseidon-Trident mountainous arrangement (red arrow), which also reminds me somewhat of the shape of an Atlas pose, but that is not my focus here. Note; In the Piri Reis map, the same navigation line passes through the masts of the three masted schooner on their way towards Madeira.
My third image hopes to show the amazing coincidence of the schooner and large fish graphic, the upside down graphic which makes no sense.
If you turn these graphics around 180 degrees, the two in combination seem to mimic the exact geography of the ocean floor, 1330 mile east of Virginia Beach, as shown in Google Earth satelite imagery.
[IMG]http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/1868/[/IMG]
Note: The Island of Bermuda is on the lower left corner.
It is almost as if the mapmakers, acknowledging the past missing-island geography which was by-then underwater, chose to paint over the lost-land positions with some whimsical artistic representations. Hence, were these lost islands painted over as a "boat and fish", upside-down at the exact location it should have been found in the middle of the Atlantic?
from... The Piri Reis Map of 1513....
http://turkeyinmaps.com/piri.html
"XIV. It is said that in ancient times a priest by the name of Sanvolrandan (Santo Brandan) travelled on the Seven Seas, so they say. The above-mentioned landed on this fish. They thought it dry land and lit a fire upon this fish, when the fish's back began to burn it plunged into the sea, they reembarked in their boats and fled to the ship. This event is not mentioned by the Portuguese infidels. It is taken from the ancient Mappae Mundi."
Santo Brandan is of course, St. Brendan, 558 AD, who traveled to the Americas, whose book "Navigatio" still resides in the Vatican Library, who is still celebrated in Ireland and Long Island AND 2nd Avenue around 92nd Street, who was researched by Cristobal Colon prior to his Atlantic voyage in 1492, and who is amazingly ignored by all American History books!
Another theory on the table... the Land of Poseidon? Possible. _________________ Ed Ziomek |

    |
|
Today, I would like to add to the Piri Reis “exactitude” of graphic design and image representation, and I am calling it the “Missing Island of Brendan”.
From a graphics and documentation person as I am for all my life, I have no explanation for how well an ancient map drawn several hundreds of years ago, could so-well match satellite imagery of today!
Case in point, the “Jacksonville Pharaoh’s face-cliff” satellite image seems so explicit compared to the “Piri Reis face cliff”. For this reason, I was puzzled why the rectangular land-image to the East of the Pharaoh, shown on the Piri Reis map did NOT appear even when using Adobe Photoshop.
As for that rectangular “land image” shown in Piri Reis, I recognize this graphic from several previous sources:
1. On the Piri Reis map, it is an un-named vertical-rectangular land-graphic, with some inlets on both Eastern and Western sides. A parrot type bird sits on the Southeasterly corner.
2. On the 558 AD-era Brendan map (not shown), which apparently Columbus secretly carried with him on his voyage West (along with the Martin Behain map), this rectangular land mass was labeled “Brendan’s Isle”, “Isle de Brendan”, or “Chippan”.
Note: the name “Chippan”, - identical to “Japan”, “Shippan”, “Chippengo” and "Saipan", is a fairly common Amerindian place name, exclusively found on the East Coasts of North and South Americas, and translates from the Egyptian… “origin of the spirit”, or “land where the sun first rises”, or “land of the rising sun”.
3. On the topographic map magnificently displayed in the National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C., the land mass is shown as a present-day, underwater seamount area, without any name that I know of.
Regardless, the "land mass" was present when the Piri Reis map was made, was acknowledged by Brendan the Navigator in 558 AD, was submerged at the time of Columbus, and is shown as a seamount by the Museum of Natural History in D.C.
What I am adding to the mix is that while I cannot see the outline of that land mass today in a Google Earth satellite image, I do see where this mysterious “Brendan” land mass fits snugly East of the “Jacksonville Pharaoh” outline. This graphic comparison image is what I am sharing today.
An explicit sonar image of the wide area ocean floor will probably solve the riddle, but in the meantime I believe we have pinpointed the long-lost Brendan's Island, shown in the Piri Reis map illustration East of Florida. _________________ Ed Ziomek |

    |
|
Again, in my heart-of-hearts, I feel someone handed me the keys to the treasure room.
There are many ancient maps and legends out in the libraries, many that don’t make sense in today’s geographic boundaries.
One of the most prominent to me was a series of maps calling themselves “Brendan maps”, named for the 558 AD Irish explorer, St. Brendan of Limerick and Galway in Ireland.
Finally, I believe I have cracked their secret codes, with help from Piri Reis and Google Earth/Photoshop.
My first image is a comparison of the fable-ized Brendan version of the Atlantic, compared to Piri Reis. Both show the “Fish legend”, of sailors mounting a large fish, starting a fire, and the fish plunging into the depths.
Fish comparison: Brendan map, Piri Reis map...
Of immediate notice is the size of the legendary fish in both maps, which stretches in Brendan’s map from the howling lion face-cliff off Lisboa, Portugal in the East, all the way West into the Atlantic with a curved tail.
In the lower Piri Reis map, in a very peculiar reduced-size, inverted look, the fish is located between 5/8s and 3/4 of the distance between Spain and the Southern North-America area.
What happened in between the two depictions? Answer: a Flood happened, rising waters happened
The first Brendan map is a road map, as verified by the road indications of the Google Earth satellite imagery, wherein the top of the fish and the bottom of the fish reveal physical roads extended from the Portugal area across the Atlantic in two arc-designs, crossing the mid-Atlantic Ridge (green dots) probably via man-made channels or “bridges”, ending up in an mud-obscured area near St. John’s and Halifax, Nova Scotia. (yellow dots)
Brendan map detailed...
The Brendan ‘Fish” image also shows 8 monks praying on the backside, and these seem to represent the Azores Islands.
This same image shows a Christ-crucifixion scene on its top (light blue cross), which I show on Google Earth as a large scale ocean floor geoglyph probably representing Ouranos consuming his children, in his mouth (not shown this time, very dim).
This same image shows two pathways across the Atlantic Ridge, and a “Christ rowing a row boat with two monks” beneath. At this location, I show a now-submerged series of islands, arranged in a vertical fashion (green vertical bar).
And for a large scale satellite image of the ocean floor...
Conclusion... the Brendan map is primarily a road map, and the Piri Reis map is primarily a “rising water era”, sailing navigation map, with former island locations painted over with whimsical artistic representations.
Further historical conclusion: there is a book that gives us more clues here, and that is “How the Irish Saved Civilization”, by Thomas Cahill. I have been told that he explains how the geographic isolation of Ireland, and the work of hundreds of monks protected ancient manuscripts from destruction of invaders.
With all that I have found so far, I strongly suspect that in many libraries and Universities of Ireland, containing these protected, ancient maps of oceans and sea monsters and legends of the past, these libraries will contain to this day the road maps of the ancient Atlantic sea floor, showing the land passages across the mid-Atlantic ridge to the Americas.
Sea monsters had graphic, geographic, theologic meaning. And they secretly showed roads. _________________ Ed Ziomek |

    |
|
One of the recurring stories of the Piri Reis map was that it "showed the Antarctic before the ice age, now covered with ice and snow".
It pains me to debunk this ficticious myth which I repeated so many times, because from everything I see, the Piri Reis map does not show the Antarctic at all, but instead shows what is known as the "Falkland Islands shelf" which extends underwater from Argentina in the West, almost all the way to South Africa in the East.
South Atlantic, full view...with Piri Reis - Falklands Shelf area outlined...
There is no doubt that this same area was once covered with ice, but the Piri Reis map depicts the entire area free from today's ice coverings, with the closest proximity to Antarctic being 800 or so miles to the South.
Closer detail... Falklands Shelf area south of "green bar" area...

Posted: Wed Sep 17, 2008 12:33 pm Post subject: Layers of Artwork in Piri Reis, Needs x-ray scanning |
    |
|
The Piri Reis map is alleged to have been a compilation copy of an ancient map and more modern features, and I am beginning to agree more and more.
For example, it shows more-modern three masted sailing ships, probably of a style not known until the 10th Century AD or so, along with written dialogues of modern sailing adventures, including Columbus himself
But in addition to what is obvious, I am noticing something very significant.
There is a whole level of layered, subsurface artwork that has been obscured from viewers like myself.
I am beginning to understand that the sailing-ship-painted-images of the Piri Reis were meant to cover island locations, or ocean floor locations which are now submerged. The defecating hairy ape man most certainly represented “gold”. Animals such as the alligator image displayed in the Venezuela/Columbia area, with its rough faceted skin, probably had secretive meaning such as “Emerald mines”, in my opinion, which are famous for this region. A tawny brown ram with an odd horn-set might represent a copper mine, or iron mine area, or a road convergence town, which it seems to do. I can appreciate all these peculiar graphic designs, and plausible meanings.
Most interesting to me is that there seems to have been an attempt to white-wash whole sections of the map surfaces with a white-pigmented cover, and the original images underneath seem to have percolated back up to the top in a shadowy projection, after 500 years of storage. There are “shadows” everywhere (land and ocean floor) that conform to geographic features displayed only in satellite images.
In this addition, I will be explaining three of these locations shown in Piri Reis.
Piri Reis large scale
First image: Piri Reis main map, yellow highlights Amazon River basin, green highlights sunken island areas in South Eastern Atlantic ocean, and red highlights the Tropic of Cancer area, northwest of the Cape Verde Islands...
First location...Amazon cities and roads, obscured with interesting text...
As mentioned, throughout the Piri Reis map there are many odd statements overwriting the ancient artwork and the white-wash base coat, written either in Arabic, Turkish, or some modern script. I now believe these writings to be an additional obscuring method, disguising strategically important features the owners of the map were trying to conceal to the world. The largest written dialogue appears in the middle of the Amazon area of Brazil, and deliberately obscures a road and city system, which I have highlighted in yellow dots. At the majority concentration of those roads and villages, I placed an elliptical circle which conforms to the areas of Manaus, Itaquatiara, and Rurupolis, Brazil. Earlier I had described this area as the possible “Grand Central Station” of the ancient Amazon, and maybe “the Land of Ophir”, possibly even the area of the “Seven Cities of Gold”.
Amazon area of Piri Reis map, with roads and cities obscured by overwritten text...
The largest of the written stories, found to the West of the hairy ape man in the middle of the present day Amazon, was translated by Professor Dr. Afet Inan, Ankara, 1954
with all the translations found at... http://turkeyinmaps.com/piri.html
While it is apparent that danger did exist, and the natives were unfriendly at first, of supreme interest to me is the apparent admission by Colombus that he “kidnapped” two of the local Indians, in his first week of his discovery of this "New World". Also, there is the remarkable entry that Columbus "read" where the natives considered "glass beads" as some form of currency. Where did he read this?
"O Colombo, if it happens as you say, let us make you the kapudan [admiral] to that country. Having said this, he sent the said Colombo to the Western Sea. The late Gazi Kemal had a Spanish slave. The above-mentioned slave said to Kemal Reis, he had been three times to that land with Colombo. He said: First we reached the Strait of Gibraltar, then from there straight south and west between the two . . . [illegible]. Having advanced straight four thousand miles, we saw an island facing us, but gradually the waves of the sea became foamless, that is, the sea was becalmed and the North Star - which the seamen on their compasses still call the star - little by little was veiled and became invisible, and he also said that the stars in that region are not arranged as here. They are seen in a different arrangement. They anchored at the island which they had seen earlier across the way, the population of the island came, shot arrows at them and did not allow them to land and ask for information. The males and the females shot hand arrows. The tips of these arrows were made of fishbone, and the whole population went naked and also very . . . [illegible]. Seeing that they could not land on that island, they crossed to the other side of the island where they saw a boat. On seeing them; the boat fled and they [the people in the boat] dashed out on land. They [the Spaniards] took the boat. They saw that inside of it there was human flesh. It happened that these people were of the kind who went from island to island hunting men and eating them. They said Colombo saw yet another island, they neared it, they saw that on that island there were great snakes. They avoided landing on this island and remained there seventeen days. The people of this island saw that no harm came to them from this boat, they caught fish and brought it to them in their small boats. These [Spaniards] were pleased and gave them glass beads. It appears that he [Columbus] had read-in the book that in that region glass beads were valued. Seeing the beads they brought still more fish. These [Spaniards] always gave them glass beads. One day they saw gold around the arm of a woman, they took the gold and gave her beads. They said to them bring more gold, we will give you more beads . They went and brought them much gold. It appears that in their mountains there were gold mines. One day, also, they saw pearls in the hands of one person. They saw that when; they gave beads, many more pearls were brought to them. Pearls were found on the shore of this island, in a spot one or two fathoms deep. And also loading their ship with many logwood trees and taking two natives along, they carried them within that year to the Bey of Spain. But the said Colombo, not knowing the language of these people, they traded by signs, and after this trip the Bey of Spain sent priests and barley, taught the natives how to sow and reap and converted them to his own religion. They had no religion of any sort. They walked naked and lay there like animals. Now these regions have been opened to all and have become famous. The names which mark the places on the said islands and coasts were given by Colombo, that these places may be known by them. And also Colombo was a great astronomer. The coasts and island on this map are taken from Colombo's map.”
Second location image is the Tropic of Cancer area, northwest of the Cape Verde Islands, which appears to have a schooner painted over the white base coat on the Piri Reis map.
The sail of this schooner, depicted in a 90 degree clockwise position, points along what appears to be the Piri Reis Tropic of Cancer line, and exactly overlays a network road system evidenced in the Google Earth satellite image. While the main sail points towards what is now Nouadhibou, Mauritania, the presently accepted Tropic of Cancer crosses 200 miles North at Dahkla, Western Sahara. It should also be noted that the main sail pointer intersects the eyes of an ancient face cliff, now underwater to the immediate West of Nouadhibou (red arrow). Many other undersea roads, astral spiral designs, face cliffs, city convergence points are faintly visible in this satellite image.
Third location is very faint, and highlighted in green on the original map, showing a sunken island habitat area in the Southeastern Atlantic. The Piri Reis map shows an official stamp, possibly by mistake, overwhelming the whitewash cover paint and shadows underneath.
Either by intention to correct geographic and architectural features that are now underwater, or by political neccessity of protecting valuable mineral resources, many of the original images seem to be obscured.
The conclusion I have is that the Piri Reis map is not only a compilation map of many modernish geographic, landscape, and architecural features, but that there are subsurface layers of artwork, city-scape, and road networks that only sophisticated equipment (such as x-rays) will reveal under the top layer of white-wash cover.
I will be contacting the Turkish museum in Istanbul, the owners of Piri Reis, regarding these findings. _________________ Ed Ziomek |
