| hello there...im just wondering if there is anyone out there that would help me with an idea that i have, this is for my AS RM course and i would like to share ideas and thoughts. i am going to design a folding chair that can also be, when not in use, stored on the wall. This type of design would be for people that are living in small accomodations and need flexable space... |

Hello! thankyou for replying, im in need of as much help as possible! Yes i do have some ideas. The only restriction now is time, which i dont have a lot of, due to the course work having to be handed in. Materials are not a problem, they obviously need to be strong, light in weight and cheap.
So what do you do and what do you think you could help me with in this project? |

Can you show one of your ideas?
Why not make a sort of canvas-frame out of a metal and put a flexible material (rubbel or so) in it... so if you sit in it it adapts to your body and else if not in use you can put it against the wall as an ornament.... It comes from a design I once saw somewhere.... Just put in some ideas and maybe we can work something out. Otherwise PM me your mail adress. |

Well i dont have the designs on me at the moment, because i am at school. well the idea of the chair hanging on the wall is something that i want to keep, this is some aspect of the design that have to keep, so that the design is different to all the others!
Is the flexable material in the frame? so the frame moves to accomodate the weight and shape of the person? its a good idea in principal. |

You got it... but as I already said, I think I have seen it before, but you can try to remodel it.Idd the frame comes around the elastic field,
Don't look after the existing object, and so you can create it completely out of (y)our imagination .
How about a sort of bag you can unroll from a wall or so? |

| well seeing that the chair is flexable it could 'squash' so to speak? but if it could do that then id like to see it keep its shape when someone is sitting on it! My inital idea was that it could fold flat, well as flat a possible. i will send you some images that show how this could be done, later. By the way what is your line of work, if you dont mind me asking? |

I'm an informatic for the Belgian Air Force, but I'm a 3d year interior design student in evening school...
The bag would have to be made out of a very strong material but it can exist I'm certain of that. Just look at the jungle beds ppl sleep on at safaris. I'm off during the weekends tough (have to work on my own projects ), I'll be back on Monday. |

| Yes it would do the job but it wouldnt look very nice. but it i a good way of storing the chair. Why dont you PM ur e-mail to me so that i can send you some designs?Well thankyou very much for you help! it is much needed! The flexable material would solve alot of problems that i am having with the folding aspect of the chair. |

Probably no manmade object has been redesigned more often than the chair. The flat-folding chair in wood was pefected a hundred years ago; the steel folding chair by Samsonite is sixty years old. Either of these chairs could be hung on the wall. The minimal folding "A-frame" wood chair made in eastern Europe today sells for about $15., the last time I looked.
But, none of this prevents you from having a go at it! Good luck.
