From 23 to 26 October 2008 we’re going to cover the atrium at Millennium Point in a Field of Light - and it’s going to look magical! This is because we’re not using any old lights we’re using 120 beautifully coloured, energy-efficient glow lights.
However, you don’t have to be in Birmingham to view the Field because we’re using a web-cam and you’ll be able to watch it 24 hours a day on this site.
The best bit though, is the Field is fully interactive with music for added atmosphere, but it is you who can control it and it is you who can make it move in any way you want! So how does it work? First of all you need to register yourself with this site and then go to our sequencer page where you can create your own light sequence. Submit your designs and if enough members like what you have done your sequence will be played by the Field live in Birmingham and watched by people all over the world.

This is poetry to me... wonderful....
“The Field of Light will colonize a city centre space, which will be swathed with energy efficient glow lights arranged as a field in bloom. Programmed with interactive lighting and related ambient sound, the Field of Light will ‘move’ and ‘sway’ as the intensity of the lighting rises, falls, and ripples accompanied by atmospheric resonance. The Field of Light will provide visitors with a peaceful communal space in the heart of the city, which will be fully interactive and wholly in their control. The public will be able to engage with and manipulate the Field from anywhere in the world through access to a bespoke website that will give them control of their own public urban space.”
Question: Do you have a New York contingent? Could we get the Swedish Hyper Island people involved also?
It has all the makings of a worldwide networked concept.
Congratulations, good luck, and can a person like myself in New York meet up with your US group? _________________ Ed Ziomek |
