Im in the middle of an essay concerning the "connection between Architecture and fashion". I would like to include a part with "modernist rejection" on the above topic. I assume that modernism followed by postmodernism and I m reading about this. Does anybody else have an idea about? thanks a lot. |

| Welcome to Designcommunity but I'm not sure your question makes sense. Do you mean 'fashion' as in 'clothing design'? "Modernist rejection" of what? |

thanks for your anwer!
To be more specific, I can say that: Viewed from the perspective of the typical modernist architect, fashion and Architecture are usually though of as two totally separate disciplines. Architecture been the serious art of building whilst fashion has been understood, as frivolous and decorative and ultimately unimportant. In contrast to this I want to explore that both disciplines demonstrates the benefit to both that occurs when prejudice is set aside and new avenues explored.
Does Modernist rejection play a role to this?
thanks a lot |

| You would be interested to read Beaudelaire's writing "Modern Life". The "frenetic" pace of modernity includes and is indicated by ephemeral events, fashion being an entire section in this essay. |

Hi, I'm writing about the same subject area these days but may be quite different to your one. (not sure because i don't know what exactly you are writing about)
Read the book Architecture: in Fashion published by Princeton Architectural Press. It explains a lot about how many Modernist architects rejected the ornamentation in women's dress and also Fashioning of Modern Architecture by Mark Wigley is also good but it explains more about 'white wash' in modern architecture. Read about the Skin + Bones exhibition which took place recently, it shows how many architects and fashion designers adopt and shared many techniques in each field to help their designs. (it's very contemporary)
hope this will be helpful. if you find more information let me know.
Take Care! |

Could it be that your question is: "What is in fashion in architecture?"
The repply could be, in the USA residential architecture for the last 15-20 years has been the fashion in archetecture is the McMansion", oversized poor copies of Mediterranean and Victorian architecture, with the emphasis for larger kitchens, "media rooms", and multiple-car garage, gold plated fixtures, no social responsibility, no social concience, just vanity and arogance to the 10th power, monument to the greed and corruption of the compationate conservatism.
In commercial architecture, the Arab Emirates as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Ryhad and alsop China and Southeast Asia countries, the architectural-fashion or the fashion in architecture is to build glass towers with the most extravagant shapes, thanks to the technical advances in structural engineering and construction systems pluss the endless amount of petro-dollars and/or stollen money by the dictators and "blackwater" enterpreneours. |
