If you like this kind of thing, you don't need to remember the URL. There's a Greatest Hits link right on the GreatBuildings.com home page.
Though transient popularity tends to be inherently superficial, the list can still be interesting. Not hard to see why Philip Johnson has the most visited architect page just now, and how his Glass House is the most visited building page.
Nor is it hard to understand how the World Trade Center towers are at number three - and were at number one for dozens of months - despite having never been in our top ten during the five years prior to September 11, 2001.
Those may be interesting - reflecting broad public interest in architecture-related topics. Much of the richness, however, lies deeper in the lists. Brunelleschi, currently ranked just one spot below Hadid, for instance. |
