Dear Friends of Eugene and Southeast Neighbors Boards of Directors, et al.,Following, FYI, is a formal letter on the South Park PUD from Friends of Eugene, approved by the FoE Board of Directors, endorsing the Southeast Neighbors position against development this chunk of the Amazon headwaters. The letter speaks for itself on the basic issues.
This letter and the similar letter approved last week by the Southeast Neighbors will be delivered to the City of Eugene tomorrow. I believe the public record for the current South Park PUD hearing closes on Wednesday, June 21, 2000.

Dear South Park PUD Hearing Official Gustafson,Friends of Eugene hereby officially endorses the position of Southeast Neighbors recommending against approval of the current Planned Unit Development application for the South Park project in the headwaters of Amazon creek.
We also endorse the position of Southeast Neighbors recommending that the City of Eugene should pursue acquisition of the property in question as green space park, for preservation of important natural features.
As detailed in the South Hills Study, development issues for special properties in the south hills of Eugene is not simply a neighborhood matter. Various important natural features, habitat, wetlands, etc. of Eugene are found disproportionately or even exclusively in the Southeast neighborhood because of its unique topography.
For this reason, preservation of critical natural features is a matter of city-wide and regional concern. It is a necessity, both environmentally and legally.
