FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEPAVING REPAIRS BEGIN ON THREE EUGENE STREETS
Paving repairs will begin Monday, August 7, on three Eugene streets:
West Amazon Drive (Fox Hollow Road to Martin Street), Norkenzie Road (Cal
Young Road to Beltline), and Jeppesen Acres Road from Providence to Nirvana
streets).
The repair work includes digging up and repairing deteriorated
portions of the roadbed, grinding off portions of the existing asphalt
surface, applying a new asphalt surface, and, in some areas, upgrading
sidewalk crossings to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Eugene Sand & Gravel is the general contractor for the $380,000 project
designed and managed by the Eugene Public Works Department..
During daytime construction hours, lanes may be closed in the work
zones. On West Amazon Drive, at least one lane will remain open at all
times for southbound traffic. Northbound traffic can use East Amazon Drive
as an alternate route. On Norkenzie and Jeppesen Acres, plans call for one
lane of traffic to be open in each direction although at times there may be
delays and traffic controlled by flaggers. Portions of sidewalks and bike
lanes will be closed at times. Signs will direct pedestrians and cyclists
to alternate routes.
The paving work is part of an annual program designed to preserve
the City's roadway network. The program uses a pavement management system to
identify roads that would benefit the most from preventive maintenance.
Because it is much less expensive to rehabilitate (overlay) roadways than to
reconstruct them, the City strives to preserve as much of the City's roadway
investment as possible with the limited amount of funds available. The
overlay program is funded by the Road Fund, which comes primarily from state
gas taxes.
For up-to-date information about local road construction, call the
City of Eugene traffic relief hotline at 984-8484, or on the internet at
www.ci.eugene.or.us/pw/traffic.
