Friends of Tugman – August 2025 Report
The Friends of Tugman (aka The Tuggers) typically meet every other Wednesday from 10:00 am – 12 noon somewhere in Tugman Park. Exact time and park location is dependent on weather conditions and current project(s).
- We held two volunteer work events at Tugman Park in August: 8/6 & 8/20
- August 6th highlights: weeded in central native beds and the former spray play area; removed protective plastic sleeves from numerous trees that didn’t need them any longer; pruned and dug blackberry vines along the south border of the central park section; pruned and chopped overhanging limbs on the middle bridge; picked up trash park-wide
- August 20th highlights: mulched most of the recently planted (Dec 2024) Tugman Creek trees and shrubs; string trimmed a boundary around south Tugman Creek plantings; weeded in the north end and central lawn tree rings; irrigated in the north end; pruned and dug blackberries in the north end and along park’s south border; picked up trash park-wide
- A subset of the Tugger team irrigated trees, shrubs, ferns, and forbs several times in August including the trees and shrubs (planted Dec 2024) along and adjacent to Tugman Creek
- A planting plan for the next stage of the Wet Meadow Restoration Plot in the park’s north end was submitted and approved; a budget for plants, grass plugs and seeds for approximately 1200 sq. ft. was approved by P&OS; logistics for procurement of these plants and seeds is under discussion; November is the target timeframe to remove the existing tarp and plant native species in this next stage
- Our regularly scheduled bi-weekly Wednesday volunteer work events for September 2025 are: 9/3 & 9/17 (10:00 am – 12 noon).
