Friends of Tugman – October 2025 Report
The Friends of Tugman (aka The Tuggers) typically meet every other Wednesday from 10:00 am – 12 noon somewhere in Tugman Park. Exact time and park location is dependent on weather conditions and current project(s).
- We held (5) volunteer work events at Tugman Park in October: 10/1, 10/12, 10/14, 10/22, & 10/29
- October 1st highlights: ground preparation for next Wet Meadow Restoration Project area to be tarped; trimming of overhanging willow branches on north end pathways; removal of debris from Tugman Creek; blackberry and other invasives removal from south park boundary; picked up trash park-wide
- October 12th highlights: additional ground preparation for new Wet Meadow Restoration Project area; tarp and staple removal from 1200 sq. ft. of plot that will be planted in November; moved and secured tarp to the new restoration area
- October 14th highlights: wood chip mulched a portion of the new Wet Meadow Restoration Project area
- October 22nd highlights: wood chip mulched the remainder of the new Wet Meadow Restoration Project area
- October 29th highlights: prepped ground and trimmed overhanging branches in the soon-to-be planted areas (11/9) of the Wet Meadow Restoration Project; pruned overhanging sweet gum branches near the middle bridge; continued blackberry removal along the south border; string trimmed grasses around the south end native plants; removed debris dams from Tugman Creek
- On October 15th a subset of the Tugger Team met with Meadow Scott (Operations Director – Whole Earth Nature School) to discuss their upcoming fall and winter Coyote Kids Afterschool Program slated to happen at Tugman Park. We walked the park to better understand the program’s desired activities and to inform WENS of our Tugger restoration efforts so that students can be mindful not to negatively impact our endeavors.
- Our scheduled volunteer work event for November 2025 is: Sunday, 11/9 (10:00 am – 12 noon). We will be planting approximately 1200 sq. ft. of recently uncovered ground in the Wet Meadow Restoration Project in the park’s north end. Native grasses, forbs, shrubs, and seeds will be planted. We will NOT have our regularly scheduled Wednesday work event on 11/26 due to the proximity to the Thanksgiving holiday. However, we may schedule ad hoc work events in November as needed.
