SEN Transportation Report

Below is the April 2024 report for the Transportation Committee. I am pleased with some of the results we achieved this past month!

  • We submitted the committee’s 2024 work plan to Board Chair Devon Mann for incorporation into the SEN board work plan.
  • The committee sent an email to Logan Telles, Transportation Planner for the City of Eugene (Vision Zero) commending the City on reducing the speed limit to 25 mph on both Hilyard St and 40th Ave. We attached the table we presented to the City in 2022, which identified Hilyard as one of the 10 to 12 “hot spots” for speeding infractions.  Logan emailed me back and offered to attend one of our Transportation Committee meetings! We may shoot for Weds June 5, possibly at Tugman Park where we can observe the lower speed limit in action.
  • We decided to highlight parks, trails, and open spaces in the south/southeast portion of the city. . .all part of the transportation network within or near SEN. . .when hosting the November SEN general meeting. We sent an invitation to Philip Richardson, Landscape Architect at the City Parks and Open Space and Manager of the Suzanne Arlie Park/Ridgeline Trail project to give a presentation at the SEN general meeting in November. No response yet.
  • Linda Duggan, as a representative of the committee, met with Councilor Matt Keating. She discussed (among other items) the speeding problem, the lack of large signage and flashing crossing lights (especially around schools and parks), and the unsafe conditions of city sidewalks. Matt shares our concerns and supports our endeavors to work with various City departments on these issues.

Respectfully submitted,

Lucy Bambrey, Chair

Ready Southeast Report

Hello Ready Southeast Neighbors and Volunteers,

May is Wildfire Awareness Month and it’s off to a good start with several learning opportunities tomorrow and a great volunteer victim one next week. This month our Radio Check-In, followed by a Ready SE Committee meeting, will take place on Sunday, May 12th. Radio practice begins at 7 PM.
The face-to-face part of our check-in takes place virtually at 7:30 PM over Google Meet to discuss updates or plans. In March, we reviewed a draft of our neighborhood committee’s work plan for 2024. Last month, we reviewed the web page update and began tackling the disaster plan update. We will continue our work together guided by these documents this month. Please contact me to lend a hand to our preparedness work outside of the regular meeting schedule or if you want to carpool to the CERT meeting tomorrow night, we leave around 5:30 pm.
——-Alerts Alert

Are you signed up to receive emergency alerts in Lane County? Accounts on the
old system (AlertMe!) were deleted on January 20, 2024 and neighbors must register for a free account on Everbridge at https://member.everbridge.net/337829242601799/new to make sure they don’t miss any critical safety information. Block captains, please make sure your community is prepared for wildfire season and spread the word.

Sheriff’s Office, CAHOOTS, Mobile Crisis Service of Lane County and Western Lane Crisis Response.

  • May 6, 7, and 8: Volunteer Victims WantedThe Eugene/Springfield Fire Department is hosting a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Exercise featuring an “exploding food truck” scenario at the Cuthbert Amphitheater, located in Alton Baker Park at 2300 Leo Harris Parkway, Eugene. The exercise will take place from May 6 to May 8, each day from 7:15 AM to 5:00 PM. This event offers a unique opportunity for the community to observe first responders in action during a mass casualty drill. Families, children, friends, and neighbors are all encouraged to attend for a fun way to support our local emergency personnel. No experience or acting ability is needed.
