Ready Southeast Report

Hello Ready Southeast Neighbors and Volunteers,

May is Wildfire Awareness Month and it’s off to a good start with several learning opportunities tomorrow and a great volunteer victim one next week. This month our Radio Check-In, followed by a Ready SE Committee meeting, will take place on Sunday, May 12th. Radio practice begins at 7 PM.
The face-to-face part of our check-in takes place virtually at 7:30 PM over Google Meet to discuss updates or plans. In March, we reviewed a draft of our neighborhood committee’s work plan for 2024. Last month, we reviewed the web page update and began tackling the disaster plan update. We will continue our work together guided by these documents this month. Please contact me to lend a hand to our preparedness work outside of the regular meeting schedule or if you want to carpool to the CERT meeting tomorrow night, we leave around 5:30 pm.

Ready Southeast April Update

Hello Ready Southeast Neighbors Volunteers,

I hope this message finds you well. As we continue to prioritize our community’s emergency preparedness, I wanted to extend my gratitude to those who joined us at the Wildfire-focused SEN General Meeting in March. A special thank you goes out to David for his excellent coordination of the event. You can enjoy a radio version of Bart Johnson’s talk if you missed it here (thanks John Q!)

Our efforts this month remain steadfast with a series of activities geared towards enhancing our readiness. First and foremost, on Sunday, April 14th we have our regular Second Sunday Radio Check-In, which serves as a crucial touchpoint for us to ensure we’re all connected for an eventuality. Following this, we have a Ready SE Committee meeting. Radio practice kicks off at 7 PM, with the virtual face-to-face segment starting at 7:30 PM via Google Meet. You can expect to receive the meeting link and agenda on the Friday preceding the meeting. To help you prepare and participate effectively, please review our 2024 work plan and the current draft of our neighborhood disaster plan.

Additionally, we’re continuing our carpool initiative for the monthly CERT trainings, which play a vital role in equipping us with essential skills and knowledge. Attached, you’ll find a list detailing the topics slated for the remainder of the year, enabling you to plan your participation accordingly. Furthermore, I’ve included one of the key takeaways from a recent meeting, titled “Preparedness Lifelong Journey,” to provide you with insight into the valuable discussions taking place within the CERT sessions. It’s a worthwhile hour and a good way to get to know each other.
In addition to our core activities, I’d like to highlight a few upcoming events that might capture your interest:
April 4, 10:00 AM: Resilient Nation Partnership Network Forum: Rising Tides, Rising Divides: Climate and Equity in the Built Environment. Discuss complex challenges facing our nation; share lessons learned, best practices, and personal stories; and work together on innovative ideas to advance natural hazard resilience.

April 4, 12:00 PM: A conversation for funders on reforms for disaster assistance to help survivors recover faster. Please join the Center for Disaster Philanthropy for a call on FEMA’s reforms for disaster assistance to help survivors recover faster. This webinar is aimed at helping philanthropic partners understand the impact of the changes on their giving strategies. Register here.

April 4, 6:00 PM: Cascadia Community Preparedness with Jenny Demaris, Eugene-Springfield CERT, Fire Training Facility – 1705 W 2nd Ave. The Ready SE Neighborhood Carpool leaves between 5:30 PM and 5:45 PM, email me if you want a ride! You do not have to be a CERT to attend. Free.
April 14, 7:00 PM: Ready SE Second Sunday Check-in and Monthly Meeting (details above)

April 18, 10:00 AM: Resilient Nation Partnership Network Forum: Extreme Heat: Reflecting on the Hottest Summer to Date. Discuss complex challenges facing our nation; share lessons learned, best practices, and personal stories; and work together on innovative ideas to advance natural hazard resilience.
